* - Postal Abbreviations for the States and Provinces, used in the photo numbering, are at the end of this page (together with some country abbreviations).
The photographs which follow are representative of the equipment seen (or to be seen) on tours of Central and South America organized and directed by TRAINS UNLIMITED, TOURS.
They are not yet captioned nor further identified other than as made available by TRAINS UNLIMITED, TOURS or contributions from sharp-eyed and knowledgeable viewers or by the Webmaster.
Please bear in mind that these are archived photos; current ones are on the Trains Unlimited, Tours pages, especially in their Photo Gallery.
[If you have never tried retouching over clouds and around catenary wires;
it's just loads of fun! :·) - SB,III]
Photographs identifed as "thumbnails" are in fact low-resolution copies of the larger (in some cases, VERY much larger) originals, to speed loading, not to save page space.
Sample images from the various country pages follow;
some have been reduced to load faster without thumbnailing and
are available at full resolution on the indicated pages:
Here's Argentinian (left) and Bolivian (right) samples:

Here's a Brazilian sample:
Here's a Chilean sample:
Here's an Ecuadorian sample:
Here's a Peruvian sample:
Here's a Salvadorian sample:
Twenty-four (24) slides were scanned commercially and have been added to these pages {19 Oct 02).
The slides show some of the oddest "critters" ever seen;
it would appear that anything that runs gets put on railroad wheels;
{the following, both from Peru, are two of my favorites - SB,III}

been reduced to load faster without thumbnailing and are
available at full resolution on the indicated pages.
Sample U. S. photos are on the preliminary U. S. page and
sample Canadian photos will appear momentarily on the Canadian page.

Portola, California, 'way up over Donner Pass in the High Sierras, near Lake Tahoe, Nevada, is where Trains Unlimited, Tours is located; it is also the home of the Portola Railroad Museum, operated by the Feather River Rail Society, a group primarily devoted to the Western Pacific RR. The Portola Museum is home to the only surviving twin-engined boxcab oil(diesel)-electric, the Foley Bros. #110-1.
For more oddball rail equipment see the Webmaster's Odder Boxcabs and related weird equipment on his Rail-Auto page.
If you like electric boxcabs, Clint Chamberlin has a whole page full! Also, there was a great feature on the twilight of "The King of the Rails", the Milwaukee Road's huge GE E-34, E-50a, and E-74 in the July 1973 TRAINS, pp. 29-38; quite literally the "End of Wire".
